Good morning and Happy Wednesday CurationsLA Family! In light of recent events across the city, we debated whether to publish today’s newsletter. But now more than ever, LA needs steady, positive energy + Good Vibes. Please double-check event times for today + tomorrow, as schedules may shift due to unfolding circumstances or possible curfews. On our end, CurationsLA continues to grow. I’m catching up on submissions and emails, and if I haven’t responded yet, I will be doing so this weekend. Thanks for your patience, now, let’s get into today + tomorrow’s Good Vibes. – Wyatt

BURBANK ✈️ PASSENGER INCREASE
Hollywood Burbank Airport saw a 6% rise in passenger traffic in April, outperforming its LA County counterparts as LAX and Long Beach recorded continued declines. Boosted by major increases from Delta and United, Burbank’s growth reflects a broader shift as travelers favor smaller, more efficient airports. Overall, travel across the four regional airports dipped 1 percent amid economic uncertainty, tariff tensions, and reduced Canadian and Chinese tourism. Ontario International marked its 50th consecutive month of growth, while also reporting a 17% surge in air cargo.

SANTA MONICA 🎡 FIVE STORY, MIXED-USE
Construction is nearly complete on a five-story, mixed-use development on Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica, bringing 98 new homes, ground-floor retail, and a landscaped interior courtyard to the edge of Downtown. Developed by Tishman Speyer and designed by KFA Architecture, the project replaces a low-rise commercial building and introduces contemporary design with recessed balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows, and offset massing. Amenities include 206 parking spaces, dedicated bike storage, and shaded outdoor gathering areas, with completion expected by early 2026.
PALMS 🌴 APARTMENTS + RETAIL READY
A new six story mixed use development on Venice Boulevard in Palms has officially wrapped construction, bringing 85 apartments above street level commercial space and two levels of underground parking. Designed by Plus Architects for Venice Adventures LLC, the project was approved under the Transit Oriented Communities program and includes affordable units. Bold in design, the building features angled balconies, floor to ceiling windows, and a rooftop deck with trellis shade, replacing an earlier five story plan from 2016.

CULVER CITY 📱 SMARTLESS MOBILE
Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett have launched SmartLess Mobile, a digital-only phone service aimed at cutting wasteful unlimited data costs by focusing on how most people actually use their phones—mostly on Wi-Fi. With help from wireless veterans and backed by Thomvest Asset Management, the Culver City-based brand offers a lower-cost, eSIM-enabled alternative that skips retail overhead and promises smarter savings with nationwide coverage.
BURBANK 📽️ WARNER BROS. SPLIT
Warner Bros Discovery $WBD ( ▲ 2.5% ) will split into two companies by mid 2026, separating its legacy TV networks like CNN and TNT from its streaming and studio assets including HBO Max and DC. CEO David Zaslav will lead the studio and streaming division, while CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels oversees the debt-heavy cable side, a move signaling WBD’s pivot away from traditional television amid continued industry decline. The restructuring mirrors Comcast’s recent spinoff of its own networks and could accelerate consolidation as cord-cutting reshapes media economics.

Now in to pitch for the Dodgers: Kiké Hernández... In the 6th inning 😳
— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX)

DODGERS 🧢 PADRES 11, DODGERS 1
The Padres pummeled a depleted Dodgers pitching staff in an 11-1 blowout last night, led by Manny Machado’s five RBI and Dylan Cease’s dominant seven scoreless innings. Cease snapped an 11-start winless streak while holding LA to just three hits, as the Dodgers leaned heavily on minor league call-up Matt Sauer and utilityman Kiké Hernández to eat innings. Machado extended his hitting streak to eight games, and Martín Maldonado added a homer. The series finale is set for today in San Diego with Randy Vásquez (3-4, 3.69 ERA) taking the mound for the Padres against Dodgers rookie Justin Wrobleski (1-2, 7.20 ERA), who remains in the injury-ravaged rotation.
ANGELS ⚾️ CLOSING OUT ATHLETICS’ SERIES
The Angels close out their series against the Athletics this afternoon at 1:07 PM in Anaheim, looking for a sweep and riding momentum from Tuesday’s walk-off win. José Soriano struck out 12 in that game, while Nolan Schanuel delivered the decisive hit in the 10th. Chris Taylor was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch Monday, and LaMonte Wade Jr. has been added to the roster to help cover corner outfield duties. Jorge Soler is expected back in right field after sitting out Monday with a groin issue. The Angels enter today’s game at 32–34 and third in the AL West.
